The Pearl of South Moravia

Location
As the title of the article indicates, it is located in the southern part of Moravia, less than 50 km southeast of Brno, near Breclav and Mikulov. The local landscape is part of the lower Moravian valley, but the hills of the Perlava mountains rise in the vicinity of Mikulov. How do we get here?
The best starting point to this landmark is Breclav. It is located near highway D2. Don\’t forget to take a tour of the town before heading to the ruins, if you have time to spare. Then, use the services of a local transportation company or take the train. This will get you very close to your destination. Hiking enthusiasts can take advantage of the well-maintained hiking trails.
What can you see here?
There is a lot to see. There are a number of castles and chateaux in this area. Let\’s start with the Rednice Castle. Its current romantic neo-Gothic exterior dates back to the 19th century. two tours to choose from. Valtice Castle is Baroque and was owned by the Liechtenstein family until 1945. Between the two buildings, there are many satellite buildings in extensive gardens and parks, including the famous minaret, the Belvedere, St. John\’s Castle, the Obelisk, the Three Graces, and the Colonnade na Radistonice.
After the tour?
Visit the wine cellars in and around Mikulov. The local wines are considered some of the finest in the country. You can also visit the famous battlefield of the Battle of Austerlitz. Notable natural attractions include the Rednice Pond and the Slanisko NPR (the largest pond in Moravia) near Nesitu. Nearby are the archaeological remains of the Pohansko and Aroch fortresses of the Paleo-Slavic hill fortresses.
